Catalyst Control Center Benchmark

Catalyst Control Center Benchmark

These result tell a clearer story than the ones from the original tests, there is no doubt about the fact that Catalyst Control Center has a very important role in “managing” the display driver that, in some cases, can improve performance and IQ.

Some tests like Arma 2 OA, Max Payne 3 DX9 showed rather big performance loss if CCC is not installed and the latter tests also showed texture corruption. I think we have a definitive answer. So no, disabling the Catalyst Control Center will not improve performance and IQ, more, disabling it will decrease performance and image quality.

Another great article, you guys keep answering all my AMD driver related questions before I even ask them. You guys have earned yourselves a cookie.

    How about a third test:

    - Do a clean install of Catalyst with CCC, then reboot.
    - Open the CCC, make sure all settings are at default, then close CCC and reboot. (opening and closing CCC for the first time is necessary to initialize some ‘display management’ functions and write the settings to the registry)
    - Install CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner), start the program, go to Tools -> Startup and disable the CCC startup entry. Reboot.
    - Now do the benchmark.

With this method, you get improved performance (CCC is not loaded at startup), reduced hard drive thrashing (the buggy CCC does this **** every 10 minutes) , while still keeping most of the ‘display management’ benefits. And you can always load the CCC manually if you *really* need it.
