AMD Catalyst 8.97 18 April Benchmark

AMD Catalyst Benchmark Logo

It’s been exactly 4 weeks since the last AMD leaked driver and we have another one to mess about until the next one surfaces. Earlier today the first driver with 8.97 packaging version was leaked, probably the next 12.4 WHQL or a early version of 12.5.

Unfortunately, after testing with a couple of games, SSAA still doesn’t work with DX10+ games on non-HD7000 cards. Furthermore, atipld.dll wasn’t reincluded with this package so OC (and other) functions with 3rd party tools may not work. MLAA 2.0 code is implemented with this driver.

To test how good this driver performs I will compare it against the latest official release, 12.3 WHQL and the fastest driver so far, 12.4 Beta 8.96 15 March.

Tested Drivers and Information

Prior to installing a driver, a sweep was done in safe-mode using Phyxion Driver Sweeper.

  • TUMIK

    tnx ;)

  • DOS

    not a word about MLAA 2.0 support…

    • http://benchmark3d.com Johnny 3D

This driver comes with MLAA 2.0

  • mark

    Than you

  • Connos

Thanks for your hard work. What about including Batman AC in your tests?

    • http://benchmark3d.com Johnny 3D

I need 100% GPU usage at all times in order to properly test a driver, last time I checked Batman AC was not fully using the GPU as it should.

      • Thanny

3DMark06 is the worst offender there. With the exception of most of Canyon Flight and a small portion of Deep Freeze, it’s entirely CPU-bound.

  • HasNi

thanks, i love this site xD

  • Bishi

Any chance of a Windows 8 benchmark with these?

  • NickC

    Awesome great job guys!! Thanks.

  • Vit3D

A lot of thanks for benchmark!
Really good driver, but it has serious problem with OpenGL in Photoshop CS5.
So I have to use OpenGL files (atio6axx.dl_, atioglxx.dl_ and atiogl.xml) from 8.951.1_120305
In this case everything works fine.

  • bouu

Don’t you think it would be a good idea to make a “8.97 18 April” vs. “8.97 18 April 7900 MOD” Benchmark? :)
