AMD Catalyst 12.7 BETA Benchmark

AMD Catalyst Benchmark Logo

My assumption that with AMD’s new driver release calendar we should expect a driver (whql, beta or leaked) each week seems to be correct so far. So far we’ve only had a “semi official” release (the first 12.6 Beta) and a couple of leaked drivers, no official releases thus far.

The last couple of leaks showed that AMD gives Skyrim increased attention, both 12.6 Betas that followed the first 12.6 Beta showed good FPS improvements with Skyrim, let’s see if this one follows the same path.

The build date of this driver is 12 June, the same date on which 12.6 9.00 was created, just as a fun fact, 9.00 was built 6 hours later than this 12.7 Beta 8.981.2 one. Pretty strange because AMD specifically said that they made their release calendar change because they don’t want to work on two different directions and focuses their force on one line, apparently they still have their attention divided…

Anyways, let’s compare this 12.7 8.981.2 Beta driver against the latest WHQL driver (12.4) and the best performing driver so far, 8.97 18 April.

Tested Drivers and Information

Prior to installing a driver, a sweep was done in safe-mode using Phyxion Driver Sweeper.

Driver crash with skyrim in ultra mode on HD6850 windows 7 sp1 x64.

    • http://benchmark3d.com Johnny 3D

Where exactly is the game crashing for you? I don’t have any issues with Skyrim…

      • EtaYorius

I am getting Crash with these drivers just right after the loading screens, everything goes black and the music keeps going, but the game will not respond at all.

    • progste

do you have mods installed? maybe those are causing the crash

    • Andy

I have the exact same problem, got a 6850 on Windows 7 x64 SP1, I try to load the game and 3 seconds into the black loading it freezes for a moment and then crashes to the desktop.

  • Colonel Faulkner

    I assume with a 6950 I can still keep ‘em 8.97 18 April drivers, can’t I?

    • http://benchmark3d.com Johnny 3D

      Yes you can.

    thx very much

iam in 6570 ddr3 2 gb any way i play battfled 3 great on 11.11 and 11.12 drivers

with disable dx 11 my frames average 25-47 on mid low and on mid with high 25-37

any way after update to 12.3 and 12.1 preview the frames dropped down alot i get on low every thing on law 20-32fps or less i tried 8.95 driver it gives me little better than 12xx drivers but 11.12 and 11.11 was the best the only problem with 11xx that win i press alt+tab and back to the game the game stutter and lag and if i didnt it run smooth ( 11x somtime give me drops in frames but at least it gives me the highest frames for bf3)

Image is broken for a few seconds of video playback and move the seek bar
Screen is flickering image is broken in a moment Skyrim
    HD7970 Windows7 SP1 x64
    I can not move from 12.3: (

  • steve

You know you might pull off better results using an AMD CPU instead of an Intel processor just a suggestion.

    • http://benchmark3d.com Johnny 3D

The CPU has nothing to do with what I do here. I’m testing drivers and not CPUs… the 2500k is perfect for now.

  • killerhomer
