AMD Catalyst 12.10 WHQL & 12.11 Beta 3 Benchmark

As you may already know, a number of tech sites (Guru3D, Anandtech, ComputerBase) released a bunch of tests results for the 12.11 Beta that show good improvements across the board. But there’s a small catch, all these gains will be seen only with GCN GPUs aka HD7000 Series. So if you’re a HD7000 Graphics Card owner, you’re in luck. The drop of monthly WHQLs has finally payed out.

HD5000 and HD6000 Series Graphics Cards owners should not despair. I don’t know if there’s any truth behind this but rumor has it (don’t quote me on this) that AMD isn’t doing so well, financially speaking. Their Q3 sales/profits numbers have dramatically dropped. Is a good driver able to save them? I don’t know but it’s a big step in the right direction. More incentives for green users to jump boats.

With 12.9 Beta 3, AMD released the 12.10 WHQL, which will be included in this benchmark. A lot of you asked which one of these two is the best for pre-HD7000 GPUs. Let’s find out.

On another matter, I’ve been thinking of including Windows 8 (alongside Windows 7) in these benchmarks. Most of you want that so I’ll comply. I still have a few issues with Win 8 that need to be resolved before doing it but it’s definitely on the “must do” list.

    Thank you very much.

    12.11 thats pure… will there be a another 12.10 / 12.11 benchmark with 7900 mod?

  • xone

are you kidding me doing tests on the 12.11 HD 6950 .. only on HD 7000 cards stroke Performance! ..
I have a Radeon HD7750 and 12.11 fps much more only the best drivers and the only HD 7000

    • Johnny 3D

Have you actually read anything I’ve said on this article?

      • FaeTalan

I’m a satisfied 7950 owner, who thinks your article was useful and unique. Answered a very common question. And the answer was an interesting and positive one: for non 7k series users, 12.11 aren’t useful, and the 12.10 whql are great and recommended. Nice.

    • affw

and whats the problem testing 12.11 drivers on 6950?!

  • affw

Interesting detail: Also the 77xx and 78xx cards have a huge performance increase on BF3. Didn’t they use the same architecture like the 69xx cards? Maybe its possible to modifiy the driver that also 6xxx and 5xxx cards have some performance boost. What do you think?

  • xone

stupid comparison because the tests only give boost 12.11 Card 7000 series ..
6000series card 5000 or 4000 will not boost and may even go worse

  • xone

AMD announces acceleration in games mainly accelerators Radeon HD 7000. Any optimizations to improve the use of GPU architecture using architecture GCN (Graphics Core Next).

  • TcK

It’s not stupid, it’s a tets for 6950 owners, not 7000 series!!!. Did someone of you noticed that 12.11 bosts minimal FPS on 6950 in Battlefield3? Thanks for the test, it was something I was looking for :)

    • xone

can say same you this 12.11 driver is only created for HD 7000 series not 6000… ;-) and this driver no give boost 6950 ;p

  • RMK_99

Only Windows 7 ? Add Windows 8 benchmark.

      • mubaidr

He said he is having issues with Windows 8, he will include benchmarks but let him solve the issues first! ;)

        • Ray Alx

          +1 win8 bench

  • Aegis_x1

I’m a HD 7900 Card holder… but i satisfied with yr bench mark,, as because it reflects the output thats my GPU is giving.. 12.11 Betas are not working nicely for me… I like those 12.10. . the performance in all games is Nice in this one.. :)

  • CPTseabass7

Hey guys what would you say the best hands down driver for me is. I have sager laptop, with I 7 2760 and ATI 6990m. I mainly play shooter, and mostly BF3. Please help can make up my mind and come to a conclusion. THANKS

  • _ _

with catalyst 12.10 i get in black ops now only rd. 96fps, but with all older version i have rd 200-250fps – thats not acceptable

  • David Grogan

does not work with eve online+ Asus EAH RADEON 5450 … had to roll back to an older driver to get eve online to work+ also the windows 7 64bit system rating also fails with this new driver

  • Azonic_RUS

Hello! Thanks for bench. I haven’t been here couple months:) As far as I can see 8.97 is still best for BF3:) the only game I play. I remeber I can mix drivers packages. So which content would be better to include in 8.97 from newer drivers? of course without performance lost;) Thank you in advance.
